Applications of TPE in the Automotive Industry
When TPE is used in the automotive industry, several factors must be considered:
For use in the engine compartment, TPE must be able to withstand high temperatures, as well as resist lubricating oils, gasoline, and diesel fuel. Therefore, TPV (Thermoplastic Vulcanizate) is more suitable for the automotive industry, with a hardness range of Shore A55 to D60.
In terms of exterior body parts, factors such as wear resistance, scratch resistance, weather resistance, and resistance to cleaning agents should be considered. Both SEBS-based materials and TPV can be used, with a hardness range of Shore A65 to D55.
For interior use in the cabin, the requirements for temperature and oil resistance are lower, but low odor and low volatile content are consistent industry standards. A hardness range of Shore A45 to A75 is more appropriate.
Additionally, since the standards of major manufacturers vary, the factors to consider in formula design will also differ.
