Reasons and Solutions for TPE Oil Seeping

TPE oiling refers to the phenomenon of oily substances appearing on the surface of TPE materials during processing, use, or storage, which may be caused by various factors.

Mainly includes:

  • Firstly, the selection of substrate. If a relatively low-end substrate material is used, its oil retention capacity may be poor, leading to easy oil leakage, or excessive oil addition may increase the risk of oil seeping.
  •
  • Secondly, it is the selection of oil products. Different oil products have different oil filling ratios, and improper selection of oil products increases the risk of product oil seeping.
  •
  • Thirdly, there is the process of oil filling. If the mixing is not sufficient during the oil filling process, it may result in SEBS not being fully compatible with the oil, leaving a hidden danger of oil seeping in the product.
  •
  • Fourthly, it is the temperature of the environment. Changes in temperature can affect the balance between SEBS and oil. TPE materials may undergo thermal aging after prolonged use in high-temperature environments or multiple high-temperature cycles, leading to the release of oil substances from the material.
  •
  • Finally, there is stress. TPE materials are subjected to mechanical stresses during use, such as tension, compression, torsion, etc., which may cause the release of oil substances in the material.

So since TPE has a risk of oil seeping, in order to prevent and improve TPE oil leakage, the following measures can be taken.

  • The first point is the selection of materials and optimization of formulations. Choose a substrate with better oil locking properties, such as SEBS with high molecular weight, adjust the type and proportion of oil in the formulation, and select the appropriate oil according to different TPE material systems.
  • The second point is to optimize the oil filling process, ensuring that the material can be thoroughly stirred during oil filling, allowing the material to fully absorb oil.
  • The third is to control the temperature of the environment and avoid using or storing TPE products at extreme temperatures, as temperature changes can affect the internal structure of the material, thereby affecting its oil retention capacity.
  • So through the above measures, the risk of TPE material oil seeping can be effectively reduced, and the overall quality and performance of the product can be improved.
